Your Role as an Artisan Aide

As an Artisan Aide, your main responsibility will be to support qualified artisans in maintaining, repairing, and servicing mining equipment. You will be actively involved in daily operations, helping to ensure that all machinery functions at optimal levels to avoid costly downtime.

This role requires a proactive attitude, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

Assist artisans with the maintenance, servicing, and overhaul of machinery and equipment
Perform first-level inspections on mechanical and electrical systems to identify faults or irregularities
Support both reactive maintenance (fixing breakdowns) and planned maintenance (scheduled servicing)
Help diagnose basic faults and contribute to problem-solving processes
Recondition and prepare components or spare parts for installation
Test repaired equipment to ensure proper functionality before it is returned to operation
Carry out welding, cutting, and refractory installation tasks when required
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment through good housekeeping practices
Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards to supervisors immediately
Follow all Safety, Health, Environment, and Community (SHEC) standards and procedures

Minimum Requirements

Grade 10
AET Level 4 certification
Completion of at least one relevant skills program, such as:
- Artisan Aide Fitting
- Artisan Aide Diesel Mechanic
- Artisan Aide Plater Welder
- Artisan Aide Electrical
At least 1 year of experience working as a helper or operator in a heavy industrial or mining environment
Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to conduct inspections and identify equipment faults

Additionally, successful candidates will need to:

Pass a psychometric assessment conducted by Exxaro
Obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
