Position Summary:

We are actively seeking an effective and proactive Warehouse Storeman to take ownership of our receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations. In this critical role, you will be the driving force behind the seamless flow of goods, ensuring the efficient receipt, meticulous storage, and timely dispatch of all products, raw materials, and finished goods. Your ability to strategize, organize, and execute will be paramount in maintaining our high standards of productivity and operational excellence. Ultimately, your core responsibility will be to ensure that productivity targets are not only met but exceeded, and that all warehouse processes run with optimal smoothness and promptness, directly contributing to our overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

As our Warehouse Storeman, you will be entrusted with a comprehensive set of responsibilities that demand a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on management, and meticulous attention to detail:

  • Strategic Warehouse Management: Strategically plan, organize, and manage the entire warehouse operation in strict compliance with the company’s established policies, procedures, and quality standards. This includes anticipating future needs, optimizing resource allocation, and implementing best practices.
  • Operational Oversight: Provide comprehensive oversight and hands-on management of all receiving, warehousing, distribution, and equipment maintenance operations. This encompasses everything from inbound logistics to outbound dispatch, ensuring every stage is executed flawlessly.
  • Layout and Space Optimization: Design, implement, and continuously refine the warehouse layout to ensure maximum efficiency in space utilization. This involves strategic racking, aisle configuration, and storage solutions to accommodate varying product sizes and volumes while maintaining accessibility.
  • Process Improvement and Implementation: Take the initiative to identify, develop, coordinate, and rigorously enforce optimal operational policies and procedures. This includes streamlining workflows, reducing bottlenecks, and implementing continuous improvement methodologies to enhance overall warehouse performance.
  • Compliance and Adherence: Ensure strict adherence to all warehousing and handling requirements, including proper labeling, FIFO (First-In, First-Out) or LIFO (Last-In, First-Out) inventory management, batch control, and compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines for food and spice handling.
  • Health, Safety, and Security Champion: Proactively maintain and elevate standards of health and safety within the warehouse environment. This includes regular safety audits, promoting safe working practices, ensuring proper handling of equipment, maintaining high levels of hygiene, and implementing robust security measures to safeguard company assets and personnel.
  • Comprehensive Stock Control: Implement and manage a robust stock control system, including accurate inventory counts, cycle counting, discrepancy resolution, stock rotation, and damage control. This is crucial for minimizing losses, preventing stock-outs, and ensuring accurate reporting.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide strong leadership and guidance to warehouse staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment. This includes staff supervision, training, performance management, and promoting teamwork to achieve common goals.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the proper operation, regular maintenance, and safety checks of all warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling machinery, ensuring they are always in optimal working condition.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all warehouse activities, including goods received, dispatched, inventory movements, and stock levels. Generate regular reports to management on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.

Requirements and Desired Skills:

To excel in this role, you will possess a proven blend of practical experience, industry knowledge, and essential soft skills:

  • Proven Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Warehouse Storeman or in a similar supervisory warehouse role, demonstrating a track record of successful warehouse operations management.
  • Expertise in Warehouse Management: In-depth knowledge and proven expertise in warehouse management procedures, best practices, and industry standards. This includes understanding inventory control techniques, receiving protocols, shipping logistics, and safety regulations.
  • Exceptional Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership abilities with the capacity to effectively manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team of warehouse staff. This includes delegating tasks, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Strong Decision-Making and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure and to effectively identify, analyze, and resolve operational challenges with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective interaction with team members, management, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Forklift Licence: A valid and current Forklift Licence is absolutely essential for this role, demonstrating your proficiency and adherence to safety protocols in operating material handling equipment.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory software is highly advantageous.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks associated with warehouse operations, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: R10 000,00 – R15 000,00 per month (Commensurate with experience and qualifications)

Commute/Relocation:

  • Johannesburg, Gauteng: Candidates must have a reliable means of commuting to our facility in Johannesburg.
  • Relocation (Preferred): We strongly prefer candidates who are already situated in Johannesburg or are actively planning to relocate to the area prior to commencing employment.
