Employment Type: Full-time, Learnership, Internship, Graduate (24-month contract)

Salary Range: R5,000.00 – R15,000.00 per month (Commensurate with experience and qualifications)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and Consultation:
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and specific garment requirements.
  • Translate client ideas into tangible design concepts, offering expert advice on styles, silhouettes, and current fashion trends.
  • Develop detailed sketches, technical drawings, or mood boards to communicate design proposals effectively.
  • Provide guidance on appropriate fabric choices, considering drape, texture, durability, and suitability for the intended garment and occasion.
• Measurement and Fitting:
  • Conduct precise and accurate body measurements, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy and garment fit principles.
  • Perform multiple fittings throughout the garment construction process, making necessary adjustments to ensure an impeccable and comfortable fit.
  • Possess the ability to identify and resolve fitting challenges, ensuring client satisfaction with the final product.
• Garment Construction and Alterations:
  • Masterfully cut, sew, and assemble various fabrics and materials, employing a wide range of sewing techniques and machinery.
  • Execute complex garment construction, including intricate details, linings, closures, and finishing touches, to the highest standards of craftsmanship.
  • Perform a variety of alterations and adjustments on existing garments, ranging from minor repairs to significant restyling projects, maintaining the original integrity and quality.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of sewing machines, overlockers, and other specialized tailoring equipment with proficiency.
• Quality Assurance and Timely Delivery:
  • Maintain an unwavering commitment to quality control throughout every stage of the design and production process.
  • Conduct thorough final inspections to ensure all garments meet our stringent quality benchmarks before client handover.
  • Manage workflow effectively to ensure all orders are completed within agreed-upon deadlines, prioritizing urgent requests as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to all safety protocols and best practices.
• Client Relationship Management:
  • Provide exceptional customer service, fostering positive and lasting relationships with clients.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding progress, challenges, and any necessary adjustments.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, offering expert opinions and solutions to meet client needs and preferences.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • A minimum of 2-3 years proven experience in tailoring, garment construction, fashion design, or a related field.
  • Candidates with extensive experience in bespoke tailoring or high-end fashion design will be highly regarded.
  • Entry-level candidates for Learnership/Internship/Graduate positions will be considered if they demonstrate exceptional foundational skills and a strong eagerness to learn and develop.
• Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrable mastery of advanced sewing techniques, including hand stitching, machine sewing, and various finishing methods.
  • Proficient in pattern interpretation, adaptation, and potentially pattern drafting (a plus).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of different fabric types, their properties, and appropriate handling and sewing techniques for each.
  • Familiarity with various garment construction methods for diverse clothing categories (e.g., formalwear, casual wear, bridal).
• Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to every stitch, seam, and measurement is paramount.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to articulate design ideas clearly, understand client needs, and provide professional updates. Proficiency in English is Preferred.
  • Excellent Customer Service: A friendly, patient, and professional demeanor when interacting with clients.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capacity to troubleshoot fitting issues, suggest creative solutions, and adapt to unexpected challenges.
  • Time Management & Organization: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Creativity and Artistic Flair: A genuine passion for fashion, an eye for aesthetics, and the ability to visualize and execute unique designs.
• Education:
  • A Diploma or relevant qualification in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Garment Technology, or a similar field is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in tailoring or advanced sewing techniques will be highly advantageous.
• Logistics & Other:
  • Ability to Commute/Relocate: Reliable commute to Germiston, Gauteng, or a demonstrable plan to relocate before the start date (Preferred).
  • Licence/Certification: Possession of a valid Driver’s Licence (Preferred), as occasional travel for material sourcing or client meetings may be required.
  • Willingness to Travel: An openness to occasional travel, up to 25% of the time, which may include attending industry events, sourcing materials, or client consultations outside the primary location (Preferred).
