Full Job Description: Stores Assistant (Picker)
We are seeking a dedicated and efficient Stores Assistant (Picker) to join our dynamic warehouse team. This crucial role is at the heart of our operations, ensuring that products are meticulously managed from the moment they arrive to when they are dispatched. The Stores Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining the flow and accuracy of our inventory, directly contributing to our overall efficiency and customer satisfaction. You will be reporting directly to and taking guidance from the Stores Supervisor or Manager, becoming an integral part of a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Core Responsibilities and Duties (Please note, this list is comprehensive but not exhaustive; other duties may be assigned as needed):
The primary function of this role involves the precise and timely picking of merchandise. This encompasses:
- Order Fulfillment and Preparation: Accurately selecting merchandise from designated shelves based on order specifications. This requires a keen eye for detail to ensure the correct product, quantity, and variant are picked. Following selection, you will be responsible for preparing these items for secure and efficient shipping, which may involve initial staging or grouping of products.
- Warehouse Organization and Maintenance: Proactively ensuring all work areas within the warehouse are consistently kept clean, neat, and impeccably organized. This includes regular tidying, sweeping, and ensuring that all tools and equipment are returned to their proper locations. A well-organized workspace is paramount for safety, efficiency, and accuracy.
- Inventory Management and Stocking: Efficiently unpacking and properly storing incoming stock in their designated locations. This involves careful handling of products, adherence to shelving protocols (e.g., FIFO – First-In, First-Out), and maintaining a systematic approach to stock placement. You will also be responsible for taking regular inventory counts and diligently reporting any discrepancies or shortages to the Stores Supervisor or Manager.
- Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all incoming and outgoing shipments. This includes verifying manifests, cross-referencing with physical stock, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed correctly and filed appropriately. Meticulous record-keeping is vital for inventory accuracy and auditing purposes.
- Picking Orders with Precision: Executing picking orders with high levels of accuracy and speed, adhering to established procedures and deadlines. This often involves navigating the warehouse efficiently, utilizing picking lists or digital scanning systems to locate and retrieve items.
- Packaging and Quality Control: Sealing and tagging containers securely once orders are picked. This crucial step includes meticulously confirming the accuracy of each order against the picking list or system, ensuring no items are missed or incorrectly packed. You will then sign off on pick tickets to formally confirm the completion and accuracy of the order.
- Shipping Preparation and Staging: Ensuring that the correct shipping information, including labels, manifests, and any special instructions, is accurately attached to each package. Once prepared, you will be responsible for moving the completed and verified orders to the designated shipping area, ensuring they are ready for the next stage of the logistics process.
- Palletization and Secure Wrapping: Efficiently placing containers onto pallets, maximizing space and ensuring stability for transport. This involves expert use of stretch wrap, shrink wrap, and strapping to secure the load, preventing damage during transit and ensuring safe handling.
- Material Handling and Equipment Operation: Safely loading and unloading trucks using various material handling equipment, including manual and electric jacks, as well as forklifts. Proficiency in operating these tools is essential, always prioritizing safety and adhering to operational guidelines.
- Safety and Compliance: Consistently complying with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and other relevant safety protocols. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), adhering to safe lifting practices, and immediately reporting any hazards or incidents to management. A commitment to a safe working environment is non-negotiable.
Essential Requirements for this Role:
