Handyman – Impumelelo Civil Engineers

Impumelelo Civil Engineers, a reputable and growing firm dedicated to excellence in infrastructure and development, is currently seeking a highly skilled and versatile Handyman to join our dynamic team. This is a crucial role that contributes directly to the smooth operation, safety, and aesthetic appeal of our facilities and project sites. We are looking for an individual who is not only proficient in a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks but also takes pride in their work, possesses a strong problem-solving aptitude, and demonstrates a commitment to quality.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a comprehensive array of services, ensuring that all our premises are well-maintained, functional, and presentable. Your duties will encompass, but not be limited to, the following key areas:

General Works and Building Maintenance:

  • Door and Window Systems: Expertly diagnose and repair issues with doors and windows, including replacing or fixing hinges, latches, locks, and handles. This also involves ensuring proper alignment, smooth operation, and security of all entry points.
  • Wall and Ceiling Repair: Skillfully patch and repair holes, cracks, and other imperfections in walls and ceilings, preparing surfaces for painting or finishing to restore their pristine condition.
  • Tiling: Undertake minor tiling repairs, including replacing cracked or loose tiles in various areas, ensuring a professional and neat finish.
  • Painting and Surface Finishing: Perform touch-up painting and minor re-painting tasks as needed, maintaining the aesthetic appeal and protecting surfaces from wear and tear.
  • Gutter and Downspout Management: Regularly inspect, clean, and maintain gutters and downspouts to ensure efficient water drainage, preventing potential water damage to structures. This includes clearing debris, repairing leaks, and ensuring proper alignment.
  • General carpentry and minor structural repairs as required, such as fixing skirting boards, shelves, or small furniture items.
  • Routine inspections of facilities to identify potential maintenance needs before they escalate into major problems.

Basic Plumbing Works:

  • Toilet Systems: Efficiently unblock toilets and resolve issues with flushing mechanisms, ensuring sanitation and functionality.
  • Drainage Systems: Address blocked drains in sinks, showers, and other fixtures, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques to restore proper flow.
  • Back-up Water Systems: Perform basic repairs and maintenance on back-up water systems, ensuring their reliability during outages.
  • Leak Detection and Repair: Promptly identify and repair leaking taps, pipes, and toilets, preventing water waste and potential property damage. This includes replacing washers, O-rings, and making minor pipe joint repairs.

Basic Electrical Works:

  • Lighting Fixtures: Safely replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and minor light fittings as required, ensuring adequate illumination throughout our facilities. This also involves basic troubleshooting to identify causes of lighting failures.

This is a Full-time position, requiring dedication and a proactive approach to facility management. The work environment is primarily in-person, as the nature of the tasks necessitates on-site presence. We offer a competitive salary ranging from R5 500,00 to R12 000,00 per month, commensurate with experience, skills, and the successful candidate’s ability to demonstrate proficiency across all required tasks.

We are looking for an individual who is reliable, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and possesses excellent communication skills. A valid driver’s license and own reliable transport would be a significant advantage.
