Technical Job Purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the seamless operation and reliability of our clients’ communication and security infrastructure. This encompasses the efficient delivery and collection of equipment, the precise repair and maintenance of radios, and the professional installation of various systems, all contributing to V Comm cc’s reputation for quality and service excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES IN GENERAL (Broad Scope of the Role):
- Optimizing Technical Section Productivity: You will play a vital role in enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of our technical department. This involves the timely and secure delivery of fully functional or newly installed radios to clients, as well as the organized couriering of equipment where appropriate, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum client satisfaction.
- Facilitating Repair Workflow: A critical aspect of this role is the systematic collection of radios from client sites that require diagnostic assessment, repair, or preventative maintenance by our skilled technical team. Your diligence in this area ensures a smooth workflow and rapid turnaround for our repair services.
- Upholding Service Excellence: You will be instrumental in maintaining and continuously improving V Comm cc’s reputation for superior service quality. This involves adhering strictly to established organizational standards and best practices in all aspects of your work, from client interaction to technical execution, thereby reinforcing our commitment to excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Specific Daily & Project-Based Duties):
- Efficient Delivery and Collection of Radios: Execute routine and ad-hoc deliveries of new, repaired, or replaced radio equipment directly to client premises. Similarly, undertake the collection of faulty or upgradeable radios from clients, ensuring accurate documentation and secure transport of all assets.
- Assisting in the Repair of PTT Radios and Access Control Systems: Work collaboratively with senior technicians, providing hands-on support in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of Push-to-Talk (PTT) radio systems, including both analogue and digital devices. Additionally, assist in the maintenance and repair of various access control mechanisms, ensuring their operational integrity.
- Professional Radio Installation: Perform comprehensive installation services for a wide array of radio communication equipment. This includes mounting antennas, running cabling, configuring base stations, programming mobile radios, and ensuring all components are seamlessly integrated and fully operational according to manufacturer specifications and client requirements.
- POC (Push-to-Talk Over Cellular) Installation: Expertise in the installation of cutting-edge Push-to-Talk Over Cellular systems. This involves setting up and configuring network devices, ensuring secure data connections, and integrating devices to provide reliable and efficient group communication capabilities over cellular networks.
- Access Control Installation: Undertake the precise installation of various access control solutions. This may include fitting electronic locks, installing card readers, biometric scanners, door sensors, control panels, and configuring associated software to manage entry and exit permissions, enhancing client security protocols.
- Execution of Ad-Hoc Technical Tasks: Be prepared to undertake diverse technical assignments as directed by the Technical Manager. This demonstrates flexibility and a proactive approach to supporting the team’s broader objectives, covering anything from inventory checks to emergency call-outs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Dynamic Site Installations: This role primarily involves working at various client locations, conducting on-site installations and service calls for V Comm cc’s diverse client base. This will expose you to different environments, requiring adaptability and a strong understanding of health and safety protocols. You will represent V Comm cc professionally in all client interactions.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
- Comprehensive Toolset: You will be provided with, and expected to proficiently use, a range of general technical tools essential for installations and repairs, including but not limited to multimeters, soldering irons, hand tools, power tools, crimpers, and diagnostic equipment.
- Driving Requirement: A Valid South African Driver’s License is absolutely essential for this role, enabling you to travel independently to client sites and transport equipment safely.
COMPETENCY PROFILE – ESSENTIAL (Non-Negotiable Requirements):
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Grade 12 Certificate: A National Senior Certificate (or equivalent) is required, demonstrating a foundational level of education.
- Bilingual Proficiency: Moet tweetalig wees (Must be bilingual) – proficiency in at least two of South Africa’s official languages is crucial for effective communication with our diverse client base and internal team members.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
- Code 8 Driver’s License: Possession of a valid Code 8 (or B) Driver’s License is a mandatory prerequisite for this field-based role.
SKILLS:
- Technical Orientated Mindset: A strong inherent aptitude and enthusiasm for technical work, troubleshooting, and understanding how electronic systems function. This includes a practical approach to problem-solving and a desire to continuously learn about new technologies.
