Full Job Description:
Armed Security Officer (Temporary Contract)
We are currently seeking a highly dedicated, vigilant, and professional Armed Security Officer to join our team on a temporary contract basis. This critical role is essential in maintaining a safe, secure, and harmonious environment for our residents and property. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of responsibility, excellent observational skills, and the ability to act decisively and calmly in high-pressure situations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced security professional to contribute significantly to the well-being of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactive Patrol and Deterrence: Conduct regular and unpredictable patrols of all residential grounds, including meticulously inspecting buildings, parking areas, recreational facilities, and common spaces. The primary objective is to actively deter criminal activity, identify potential security risks, and detect any suspicious or unsafe conditions that could compromise the safety and comfort of our residents. This involves a keen eye for detail, checking for unsecured windows or doors, unusual vehicles, or individuals loitering.
- Access Control and Monitoring: Meticulously manage and control all designated access points to the property. This includes operating and monitoring gates, main entrances, pedestrian access points, and diligently overseeing visitor check-in procedures. The officer will be responsible for upholding strict access protocols to prevent unauthorized entry.
- Identification Verification and Authorization: Thoroughly verify the identification of all individuals seeking entry to the property, including residents, their guests, approved vendors, and essential service personnel. The officer must confidently authorize or deny entry based on established security policies and communicate clear instructions to visitors.
- Advanced Surveillance and Security System Monitoring: Continuously monitor and operate a sophisticated network of surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and other integrated security technologies. This requires a strong understanding of security software and the ability to quickly identify and respond to anomalies or potential threats detected by these systems.
- Emergency Response and Incident Management: Act as the primary responder to all disturbances, emergencies, and security incidents that may arise on the property. This includes, but is not limited to, medical emergencies (providing initial assistance until professional help arrives), fire alarms, theft, vandalism, and domestic disputes. The officer must assess situations rapidly, implement appropriate protocols, and escalate as necessary.
- Enforcement of Community Standards: Consistently and fairly enforce all community rules, policies, and safety regulations. This involves educating residents and visitors on guidelines, addressing non-compliance professionally, and documenting repeated infractions. The goal is to ensure a respectful and orderly living environment for all.
- Resident Assistance and Support: Provide courteous and professional assistance to residents whenever required. This may include offering escort services for residents to and from their vehicles or homes, especially during late hours, assisting with lost and found items, or providing directions and general information about the property.
- Effective Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open and effective communication channels with residents, the property management team, and external emergency responders (police, fire, ambulance). This involves clear, concise, and timely dissemination of information, both verbally and in writing, to ensure coordinated responses to any situation.
- Detailed Documentation and Reporting: Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all patrol activities, incidents, observations, and actions taken. This includes completing detailed written reports, incident logs, and daily activity reports in a timely and professional manner, ensuring all relevant information is captured for future reference and analysis.
- Firearm and Equipment Management: Safely and responsibly carry, maintain, and inspect an assigned firearm and all other security equipment (e.g., radio, flashlight, body camera). Adherence to all relevant firearms regulations, safety protocols, and company policies is paramount. Regular training and qualification are expected.
- Professionalism and Demeanor: Exhibit a consistently professional, calm, and respectful demeanor at all times, even in challenging or stressful situations. The officer is a representative of the property management and must project an image of authority, trustworthiness, and helpfulness to residents and visitors alike.
Qualifications and Requirements:

- PSIRA Registration: Be a fully registered and in-good-standing member with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), holding a Grade C certificate or higher.
- Driver’s License: Possess a valid Code 10 Driver’s License, demonstrating the ability to operate various vehicles for patrol duties and emergency response.
- Armed Reaction Experience: A minimum of [insert desired number, e.g., 2-3 years] of verifiable armed reaction experience is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of effectively responding to and managing critical incidents in a security context.
- Geographical Proximity: Due to the nature of this role and the need for prompt response, candidates must reside in Germiston or the immediate surrounding areas. Proof of residence may be required.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and capable of performing all duties, including prolonged standing, walking, climbing stairs, and potentially restraining individuals if necessary.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- Integrity and Reliability: A high degree of integrity, honesty, and reliability is non-negotiable.
Job Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 3 months (with potential for extension based on performance and operational needs)
Pay: R350.00 per day (paid [weekly/bi-weekly/monthly – specify])
